This year's edition of the rally, the 43rd in its history, took place on the picturesque gravel roads around Monte Titano, San Marino's highest peak. After a late evening official launch that was held on Friday before the rally weekend, the competition took off for good on Saturday, with 90 km of special stages planned for the day.
The Ford Fiesta R5 converted to run on autogas with a BRC LDI liquid state LPG system, driven by Giandomenico Basso and co-driven by Lorenzo Granai, maintained solid pace throughout the rally, thus managing to come in third overall. The points collected in San Marino were much needed and give Basso hope to progress to the 2nd spot of the standings, although chances for a champion's title this seasons are virtually non-existent.
BRC Racing Team's driver announced he will fight until the end. His next chance will come between August 27 and 29, 2015, at the Rally of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Will he replace Umberto Scandola as the season's second best driver? Let's hope so and keep our fingers crossed!
