The Green Hybrid Cup is a racing series organised commonly by BRC Gas Equipment and Kia Motors Italia. The Kia Vengas participating in the series feature 160 PS monofuel LPG engines, but since they are hybrids, their overall power is 185 PS.
The star of the July 25-26 racing weekend at Lake Pergusa was Paolo Gnemmi, who won the first race (on Saturday). He was the fastest driver of the qualifying session, thus securing the pole position and leading the pack from the very start, with his advantage over rivals growing with every single lap. Since Gnemmi was unbeatable, all the other drivers could only fight for the second spot. It was ultimately taken by Giulio Tommasin, followed by Jacopo Lombardelli in third.
Since Gnemmi won on Saturday, he was pushed back to the eighth position on Sunday (such are the rules of the cup), but thanks to his good tempo he still managed to fight his way up and finish second. Thanks to the points collected during the Pergusa round, he is now in the lead of the Green Hybrid Cup's general standings. The winner of the Sunday race was Giorgio Mertoli, who was eighth on Saturday and took the pole position the next day. Third came Giovanni Costenaro and fourth was Giulio Tommasin, who is second in the general standings thanks to extra points acquired.
The next round of the series will be held after the holiday – on the September 12-13 weekend, at the Vallelunga racing circuit. Be on the lookout for a coverage!
