Basso and Scandola fought their duel for victory until the very last special stage. Before it was held, Scandola was as little as 1,3 s ahead of his opponent, so anything could have happened. Unfortunately for BRC Racing Team's driver, whom we support because he drives an LPG-powered Ford Fiesta R5 LDI with a liquid state direct autogas injection system, he didn't win, but finished second with just 2,9 s behind the winner.
As Giandomenico Basso said at the finish, his autogas-powered Fiesta did a great job, which sounds very promising before the season's final round – the Rally Due Valli, scheduled for October 9-11. But coming back to Rally di Roma Capitale, Basso's second spot in this round allowed him to retain his second place overall for the season so far, even despite losing to Scandola, who is on Basso's heels in the standings. Paolo Andreucci, third in Rome, leads safely with 84 points, followed by Basso (54 pts) and Scandola (50 pts). The season's final round will be a battle for the second spot rather than victory, but still we'll be watching the rally closely and keep our fingers crossed for BRC Racing Team's driver.
