More specifically, the announcement concerns 337 and 348 models. They are already in production and available as truck tractors or chassis cabs. The engine (same for both) comes from Cummins Westport – it's the ISL-G unit, generating 320 PS of power and 1356 Nm of torque. It complies with EPA 2010 and 2013, as well as CARB emission standards.
The 337 and the 348 are not Peterbilt's first CNG-powered trucks – they're just an addition to the portfolio, but even without them the company's line-up of methane-powered vehicles is the most competitive on the US market today. Apart from being equipped with compressed natural gas systems, the new trucks also feature some optimised gear and hardware. For example, the sttering system has been modified to provide 50-degree turn angle, thus improving urban-driving manouvreability.
