The delivery of 1000 LPG-powered Fiat Tipos is the result of an agreement between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Leasys Spain, a car renting company owned by the FCA Bank Group. Not all the vehicles will join Uber's and Cabify's fleets immediately, though – the process will be divided into tranches of 400 and 600 units, respectively. All cars will be 5-door hatchbacks. If the market responds well to services offered by the carsharing companies, the cooperation could be extended and another 1000 Tipos will hit the streets. But when that happens, we will inform you in a separate piece of news.
As far as ridesharing services are concerned, they are similar to taxis, but don't enjoys some of their privileges in order not to interfere with the established market. For example, Uber and Cabify drivers are not allowed to use taxi lanes or pick up passengers without prior appointment. This means you cannot just wave a hand at an approaching Uber car and hop in in the middle of a street. Still, popularity of this way of traveling is growing all around the world. And that's good news for autogas – operators enjoy cutting their costs and in Spain LPG has the added value of being exempt from traffic limitations, so whenever ridesharing companies need more cars, they're likely to choose autogas over petrol and diesel. That's the kind of sharing we like!
