Interest in autogas as substitute for petrol is growing in Nigeria and the motivation behind it is pretty much the same as anywhere else where the fuel has caught on – it's more affordable (by approx. 40% in this case) and offers significant reductions in emissions, including carbon dioxide. His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Babatunde Adeyeye Ogunwusi (ojaja 2), endorses the initiative and encourages Nigerians to both use LPG as motor fuel and learn how to convert gas to run on it.
As far as the agreement is concerned, the companies involved declare commitment to the environment and willingness to protect deteriorating air quality in the cities. Motorists will also benefit from the deal as Doowegas and THLD Group (the latter is a local distributor of STAG autogas systems, manufactured by AC in Białystok, Poland) aim to provide incentives to those who decide to have their cars converted. Refueling station network is also set to expand, with Doowegas currently running more than 15 retail points in Lagos (Nigeria's capital) alone.
THLD Group has come to Nigeria at the right time. The present economic recession has necessitated Nigerians to looking for alternative but cheaper means of generating power via generator sets and fuelling of their vehicles. There is no better time than now for Nigerians vis-à-vis the governments and corporate bodies to embrace this innovation.
Olajuwan Olusegun, chief executive officer and managing director, THLD Group
