Cars used by driving schools cover significant mileages, so it's only sensible to have them converted to run on fuel that's by 50% more affordable than petrol or diesel. And of course financial motivation is a part of this story, but not only that – in Spain there are restrictions on traffic in times of excessive air pollution and autogas is an excellent way to avoid them, since alternative fuels are exempt from limitations imposed by authorities. And since it's so much easier and cheaper to get a simple petrol-powered car equipped with an autogas system that to buy a hybrid or an EV, many motorists – individual and corporate alike – make LPG their fuel of choice.
Just to give you an example: out of 109 alternatively-powered vehicles purchased and registered by Spanish driving schools in 2017, 83% were fueled with autogas. Of course, cars operated by driving schools won't single-handedly make a change when it comes to improving air quality over Spain, but that's hardly the point. The point is LPG will help driving schools (and other small businesses) save money, cut emissions and perform without having to bother with traffic restrictions. And with 600 stations available across the country (a number sufficient to serve five times more autogas-powered vehicles than there are in use at the moment and the current number is 50 thousand), getting fuel is not a limitation, either. With plans to expand the network to 1500 retail points by 2020, Spain is ready for an LPG revolution. Viva la revolucion!
