Public transport in Porto serves 70 million of passengers annually, which means approx. 200 thousand people use STCP's buses daily
STCP (Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto) has ordered 173 chassis. They will be manufactured by MAN Bus in Starachowice, Poland and completed in Portugal, with bodies to be coachbuilt by CaetanoBus. CNG engines used on the buses generate 310 PS of power and comply with Euro 6 emissions standard. The purchase proves the Porto transit authority cares about the environment and trusts MAN as provider of appropriate technology.
The deal was officially signed on March 31, 2017 at the CaetanoBus facility in Vila Nova de Gaia. Present at the ceremony were, among others: Portuguese prime minister António Costa, minister for environment João Pedro Matos Fernandes, STCP chairman José Moreno Delgado, José Ramos of CaetanoBus and Heinz-Jürgen Löw, member of the board for sales and marketing at MAN Truck & Bus AG and the board of MAN Truck & Bus Portugal.
The newly ordered buses will be delivered between 2018 and 2020. Thanks to this contract MAN will reclaim its leading position as the city bus provider in Portugal.
We are very pleased with the STCP order. The partnership between the operator and MAN Truck & Bus Portugal dates back to the year 2000 and we are determined to maintain the trust and satisfaction STCP holds for the quality of MAN vehicles and services.
Heinz-Jürgen Löw, member of the board for sales and marketing at MAN Truck & Bus AG
