10,000th vehicle by Solaris is Urbino electric

Low-floor buses have been manufactured in Bolechowo since 22 March 1996. On that day, Solange and Krzysztof Olszewski, along with a group of 36 workers, commenced work on a contract to supply 72 buses for MPK Poznań. In a short time, the company has become the leader in the Polish market of low-floor city buses, selling their products also to foreign markets.

Vehicles manufactured by Solaris (city and intercity buses, trolleybuses and trams) operate in 500 cities of 28 countries (including Berlin, Paris, Rome and Dubai).

Currently, the company employs 2,300 people. They work in four plants in Greater Poland, as well as in foreign agencies of Solaris (300 people).

For the last couple of years, Solaris’s annual output exceeds 1,000 vehicles. In 2013, the company set their record – 1302 buses and trolleybuses.

Urbino electric, manufactured as number 10,000, is an electric bus, powered by energy stored in automotive batteries, ordered by Rheinbahn from Düsseldorf. Solaris delivered these completely emission-free and having a minimum noise emission buses also to other German cities (Brunswick and Hamburg), as well as to Klagenfurt in Austria, and Vasteras in Sweden. In Poland, the electric Solaris will be tested in Kraków, in an annual project carried out in cooperation with MPK (public transport company).

When we were starting our business, we had a clear vision of what we wanted to achieve, although this vision was more of a dream back then. Today, when I visit different places in Europe and I see Polish Solaris buses, I feel immense pride and joy. These same emotions accompany our employees, who contribute to the success of Solaris through their everyday hard work and commitment. Solaris number 10,001 will go to MPK Kraków. It will be one of 100 buses from Bolechowo sent to Kraków’s public transport company in the last 3 years. Urbino 12 equipped with Euro 6 diesel engine, is one of the first Solaris vehicles in our country that meets the latest emission standards.

Solaris Urbino low-floor buses offered currently were put into production in 2004. This year (in Autumn), the company will premiere a new Solaris city bus at the Hannover Fair.
