Apparently, coming to Russia by a CNG-powered car will also be something of an option, since 47 stations are going to be available in host cities by the time the first game commences. Of course, expanding the network of compressed methane refueling stations is an important part of Gazprom's agenda anyway, but these specific 47 retail points are being built or revamped with the upcoming football fest in mind.
The stations will be available in cities where games will be played: Moscow, Petersburg, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novogrod, Rostov upon Don, Samara, Saransk and Sochi. The 36 previously existing ones were joined by 4 brand new ones in 2017 and by the time the 2018 FIFA World Cup begins, the remaining 7 will have been completed and launched. 2017 was a particularly busy year for Gazprom – 23 CNG stations were built or modernised, thanks to which sales of compressed methane as motor fuel spiked by 9,5% compared to 2016 (526 vs. 480 million cubic metres sold). Let's hope the expansion pace will be retained once the great football event is over.
