20 more LPG vans in Franz Bakery's fleet

Franz Bakery, a company using alternative fuels for the past 30 years and acclaimed for its environmentally-friendly efforts numerous times in the past, has announced adding another 20 autogas-powered vehicles to its fleet.

The company cooperates with Blue Star Gas, whose team converted 10 of Franz Bakery's vehicles to LPG in 2012 using Prins vapour state injection systems. The new, yet-to-be-converted vehicles will also use the Dutch producer's systems (VSI-2.0) and will enter service in 2016. They will be added to the company's Portland division's fleet, which currently consists of 125 trucks. Franz Bakery's overall fleet comprises 1770 vehicles.

Propane autogas has been a great investment for us over the years. Yes, it’s good business in terms of what we’re saving in fuel cost compared to gasoline, but the bigger benefit is to the community with our contribution to clean air.

Tommy Moreno, Franz’s fleet manager

The contribution Franz has made to clean air in Oregon is substantial. Oregon is a state that places high value on environmental quality and Franz Bakery continues to demonstrate that alternative fuels can reduce emissions, deliver exceptional performance, and add real value to businesses.

Darren Engle, director of government relations for Blue Star Gas
