up!, Citigo, Mii - a triple victory

Every year VCD, or the Verkehrsclub Deutschland, compiles a list of most environmentally-friendly vehicles. In the 2013/2014 edition, the German/Czech/Spanish minicar triplets have been voted winners. Thanks to the cars' teamwork (along with their inherent features, of course), the Volkswagen Eco up!, the Skoda Citigo CNG and the Seat Mii Ecofuel managed to beat over 300 contestants.

VCD has been doing this for more than 20 years. Why? To help people looking for an eco-friendly car choose the right one before they visit a dealership. In order to rank high on the list, a vehicle must be frugal, emit little exhaust gasses and noise and be aware of what it spits out into the atmoshpere. This years' winners (being essentially the same car in three thin disguises) possess all the necessary virtues as they are economical and easy on the environment.

Hungry for details? Here they come – each of the up!/Citigo/Mii trio consumes as little as 2,9 kg of CNG per 100 km, which means traveling such a distance means spending only 3 euros or 4 dollars. CO2 emissions are 79 g/km and can be further reduced by the use of carbon-neutral biomethane. Incidentally, the triplets' „big brother”, the Volkswagen Touran, came in third in the seven-seaters category. Congratulations, but beware – the CNG-powered Golf TGI BlueMotion is coming and might want to steal the show next year...
