Fiat is huge in Turkey (it has been since, like, forever – previously under the Tofas lincence brand name) and so is autogas, so offering models by a popular brand running on a popular fuel is more than just common sense – it's compulsion! Especially that the new Tipo (like the Albea and Linea sedans it succeeds) is going to be locally made and exported to select European markets.
The Tipo (called Egea in Turkey) is set to replace not only the Linea, but also the aging Bravo compact, which means the sedan bodystyle will soon be accompanied by a five-door hatchback and a practical estate. All the LPG variants are bound to feature a 1,4-litre, 95 PS engine, which most probably won't turn the car into a pocket rocket, but should prove sufficient and provide remarkable fuel bill cuts when running on autogas. The market rivals, including the Skoda Rapid and the Citroën C-Elysée/Peugeot 301 twins, should start being very affraid right now.
The Tipo will be factory-converted, either in a conversion centre adjacent to the production facility or directly on the assembly line. Either way, Fiat promises quality levels typical of new mass-volume cars. Performance details and prices are yet to be announced, so stay tuned – we'll share more information as we receive it!
